Renault presents its Grand Modus and New Modus, two new complementary models of the B-segment. The New Modus is designed for urban use, with compact exterior dimensions and a large cabin space. Grand Modus has an extended length of 4,034mm, a boot volume of 410dm3 and features three rear seats. Based on the Renault- and Nissan-shared B platform, the Grand Modus and New Modus will be produced in Valladolid, Spain, and will go on sale from early 2008.

Opel, a division of General Motors (GM), has unveiled Flextreme, an eco-friendly concept car designed to emit less than 40 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide. The electric vehicle, which debuted at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, Germany, is built upon E-Flex, GM's electric vehicle architecture, and uses a lithium-ion battery that can run up to 55 kilometers (km) at a time. Flextreme also incorporates versatile storage space via its rear-hinged back doors, transparent roof, tailgate doors and luggage compartment located beneath the vehicle's floor. Prior to its European debut in Frankfurt, the Flextreme was presented at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2007, with a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that can run on E85, and then again at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2007, as an electric concept car with hydrogen fuel cell propulsion. The concept car presented in Frankfurt contains two engines: a battery-operated engine and a 1.3-liter CDTI diesel engine.

On July 4, 2007, after exactly 50 years, the new Fiat 500 made its debut in Turin, and will be marketed immediately after the launch. Derived from the '3+1' concept car presented at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show and designed by the Fiat Style Centre, the new 500 is a compact '3-door' model with dimensions of just 355 centimetres long, 163 cm wide, 149 cm tall and with a wheelbase of 230 centimetres. The new model comes with a choice of three engines: two petrol units, the 69 bhp 1.2 and the 100 bhp 1.4 and the 75 bhp 1.3 16v Multijet with DPF, which is equipped with a particulate trap (PDF) as standard equipment. The Fiat 500 can be fitted with up to 7 airbags as standard equipment (two at the front, two curtain-bags, two sidebags and one to protect the knees), and offers a range of safety equipment from ABS complete with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), to the sophisticated ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) or HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assistance) which steps in for emergency stops.

Hyundai will unveil three new vehicles at the IAA 2007 in Frankfurt. The i-Blue, a third generation Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle will lead the way, followed by the Veloster, a sporty coupe which caters to the unique requirements of the Y-generation and the i-30 Crossover Wagon, an extension to the i-30 family aimed at European customers. Fiat is relaunching Abarth, its sports car division that specializes in both motorsports and general consumer sales. The first product, the Grande Punto, will rollout in Italy during September 2007 with plans to expand to additional markets in 2008. A company announcement indicates plans are also underway to launch three additional new products under the Abarth brand from September 2007 through December 2008. The redesigned Abarth will be owned by Abarth & C. S.p.A, a wholly-owned subsidy of Fiat Group Automobiles.

Audi is introducing a new vehicle segment with its presentation of the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro concept car at the Los Angeles Auto Show (14 -- 24 November 2007). The two-door, four-seater car measures 4.62 metres in length and combines the genes of a typical dynamic soft-top convertible from Audi with the all-round qualities of a fully fledged SUV. The muscular, powerful, but also elegant lines make no secret of this vehicle's potential. The 240 bhp three-litre TDI engine with ultra-low emission technology delivers sporty driving dynamics with exhaust emissions on the level of the EU 6 limits.
