MORE INFO: http://www.worldcarfans.com/9071030.011/volvo-xc70-surf-rescue-concept-at-semaVolvo's unveiled its new XC70 SR at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA), being held in Las Vegas from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2. The car, Volvo indicates, was designed to emulate lifeguard vehicles seen at many California beaches. The four-door SUV features a 5-inch-lift suspension for improved ground clearance, heavily modified body panels, and specially-made oversized tires with a tread designed for increased grip on loose and sandy soil. The XC70 also includes first-aid equipment and custom rescue surfboards.

The all new Renault Koleos will be launched in the first half of 2008, following it's transformation from concept to production since the Koleos was revealed at the 2006 Paris Motor Show. Porsche recently unveiled early drafts of its Cayenne SUV hybrid prototype. The SUV, which will debut towards 2010, aims to decrease fuel consumption by an estimated 25 percent, especially during city driving. The Cayenne Hybrid will feature electric-powered steering, air conditioning and vacuum pumps for the brakes. Porsche officials also report they plan to introduce a hybrid version of its upcoming Panamera four-door Gran Turismo, scheduled to debut in 2009.

Opel, a division of General Motors (GM), has unveiled Flextreme, an eco-friendly concept car designed to emit less than 40 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide. The electric vehicle, which debuted at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, Germany, is built upon E-Flex, GM's electric vehicle architecture, and uses a lithium-ion battery that can run up to 55 kilometers (km) at a time. Flextreme also incorporates versatile storage space via its rear-hinged back doors, transparent roof, tailgate doors and luggage compartment located beneath the vehicle's floor. Prior to its European debut in Frankfurt, the Flextreme was presented at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2007, with a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that can run on E85, and then again at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2007, as an electric concept car with hydrogen fuel cell propulsion. The concept car presented in Frankfurt contains two engines: a battery-operated engine and a 1.3-liter CDTI diesel engine.
